THE GUFFEY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
The Guffey Community Association held its first, semi-annual meeting this year, on June 18th at the Community Building.
A brief history. The GCA was started to maintain and oversee the Community Building , which was built by the Guffey community and the Department of Corrections, funded by grant monies and lots of volunteer work, in the late 1980's. The building was donated to the County after completion.
The GCA still maintains and oversees the building and is a platform for town issues and projects. In the past, the GCA has supported 4-H programs, the day care center, scout troops, bingo, and most recently, the cemetery project.
The GCA supported the recent Town Meetings about the proposed retreat center in town and many, many other projects and issues.
In the past, there has been some confusion about who is and who is not a member of the GCA. Hopefully, to lay to rest the confusion, EVERYONE IN THE GUFFEY AREA IS A MEMBER OF THE GUFFEY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION. This is YOUR association.
On the other hand, if you want access to the Community Building , you need to purchase a key for a nominal charge. Those monies help pay for some of the maintenance. There are key applications in the foyer of the building with instructions. It could take a while, though, to get your key. This is a volunteer organization.
For such a small area, the Community building is unique. There is a pool table/ping pong table, racquetball court with one basketball hoop and a weight room with several different kinds of machines.
The GCA is a non-profit corporation and usually holds two meetings per year, but can have a meeting any month, if need be. The meetings just have to be held the third Wednesday of the month.
